More Than a Laser Treatment. A Physician-Led Nail Restoration Plan.

At Lansdowne Podiatry, we do not approach toenail fungus as simply a one-time cosmetic laser procedure. Dr. Monique Muronda develops an individualized treatment plan based on the condition of your nails, severity of infection, number of nails involved, nail thickness, previous treatment, medical history, and response to therapy.
Your treatment plan may include PinPointe™ laser therapy, professional nail reduction or debridement when indicated, topical antifungal therapy, clinical photography, shoe and environmental care, ongoing monitoring, and personalized home-care coaching.
Our goal is to work together throughout the nail-growth process to give healthier nail the best possible opportunity to grow.
Nail fungus is a chronic condition that can impact your quality of life, causing toenail pain, embarrassment, and potential health complications for patients with diabetes or immune disorders.
Because the infection sits under and inside the nail plate, over-the-counter products and home remedies often fail to resolve the problem effectively.
Common Signs of Fungal Nail Infection:
Important Note: Not every thick, discolored, or abnormal nail is caused by fungus. A physician evaluation can help determine the appropriate diagnosis and treatment approach.
Fungal nail infections can be persistent, and the visible damaged nail may represent months or even years of fungal involvement. Toenails also grow very slowly.
Laser treatment does not instantly replace the damaged nail. Instead, we monitor for healthier nail growth beginning at the base of the nail and gradually progressing forward.
Some patients may require fewer treatments, while others may benefit from additional laser sessions depending on the severity of the infection, number of nails involved, nail thickness, previous treatment, nail growth, and individual response.
Think of treatment as a nail restoration process—not simply a one-time laser procedure.
An individual treatment may be an appropriate starting point for some patients. Others may benefit from a structured series of treatments. Dr. Muronda will make recommendations based on your individual clinical presentation and response to treatment.
For patients who need or prefer a structured multi-treatment approach, Lansdowne Podiatry offers Clear Toes Club™ Signature Programs.
These physician-directed programs provide structured treatment options for patients who may benefit from multiple PinPointe™ laser sessions and ongoing nail restoration care.
You do not need to determine the number of treatments you need on your own. Dr. Muronda can evaluate your nails and recommend an appropriate starting plan.
Depending on your individualized treatment plan, your care may include:
Physician evaluation
PinPointe™ laser therapy
Professional nail reduction/debridement when indicated
Clinical photography to monitor nail growth
Prescription or recommended topical antifungal treatment when appropriate
Personalized home-care instructions
Shoe and environmental disinfection education
Foot hygiene and moisture-control recommendations
Ongoing monitoring
Treatment-plan adjustments when clinically appropriate
Patient education and coaching throughout the nail-growth process
Successful fungal nail management does not end when you leave our office.
Dr. Muronda provides the medical treatment, monitoring, recommendations, and ongoing guidance. Your role is equally important.
Patients are expected to consistently follow their recommended home-care plan, which may include topical antifungal treatment, keeping the feet clean and dry, treating shoes, rotating footwear, reducing opportunities for reinfection, and attending recommended follow-up visits.
Treatment is a collaboration between physician and patient. Consistently following the complete treatment plan helps create the best possible environment for healthier nail growth.
Individual results vary, and no specific outcome can be guaranteed.
Toenails grow slowly. Laser treatment does not make the existing damaged portion of the nail suddenly become clear.
Instead, we look for healthier nail to begin growing from the base and gradually move forward as the older damaged nail grows out.
Visible improvement can take several months, and complete toenail replacement may take approximately 9–18 months depending on the individual nail and patient.
Patience, consistent home care, and recommended follow-up are important parts of the restoration process.
For appropriate candidates, KeryFlex™ Nail Restoration may provide a cosmetic option to improve the appearance of a damaged nail while the natural nail continues its treatment and growth process.
How do I know if I have toenail fungus?
Toenail fungus may cause nails to become thickened, discolored, brittle, crumbly, distorted, or separated
from the nail bed. Some patients may also notice debris beneath the nail or changes that gradually
worsen over time.
Because several nail conditions can look similar, Dr. Muronda evaluates the appearance and health of
the nail before recommending treatment.
Does every thick or discolored nail mean fungus?
No. Trauma, psoriasis, repetitive pressure from shoes, aging, and other nail conditions can sometimes
resemble a fungal infection.
This is why we take a physician-led approach rather than assuming every abnormal-looking nail is
fungal. When the diagnosis is unclear, additional evaluation or testing may be recommended.
Can I receive PinPointe™ FootLaser treatment if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Because safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been adequately established, PinPointe™ FootLaser treatment is deferred until pregnancy and breastfeeding have ended.
If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, are actively trying to become pregnant, or are currently breastfeeding, please let Dr. Muronda know before treatment.
How does PinPointe™ laser treatment work?
PinPointe™ laser therapy uses targeted laser energy to treat the affected toenails and surrounding areas
while leaving the surrounding skin intact.
Laser therapy is only one part of our comprehensive fungal nail restoration approach. Depending on
your individual case, your treatment plan may also include nail debridement, topical antifungal
medication, shoe treatment, foot hygiene recommendations, and ongoing monitoring as healthier nail
grows forward.
Does laser treatment hurt?
Most patients tolerate treatment well. You may feel warmth or brief periods of increased heat during the procedure.
We continuously communicate with you throughout treatment and can pause or adjust as needed for your comfort.
How many laser treatments will I need?
The number of treatments varies from patient to patient. Some patients may require a series of treatments rather than a single session, particularly when several nails are involved, the infection has been present for a long time, or the nail is significantly thickened or
damaged.
Dr. Muronda will recommend a treatment plan based on the appearance and severity of your nails.
Why might I need multiple treatments?
Toenail fungus can be persistent, and the toenail itself grows very slowly. Repeated treatments may be recommended to continue addressing the fungal environment while healthier nail gradually grows forward. Your treatment plan may also be adjusted based on how your nails respond over time.
Our goal is not simply to perform a laser procedure, but to follow the nail through the restoration
process.
Are results guaranteed?
No. As with any medical treatment, individual results vary and no specific outcome can be guaranteed.
The severity and duration of the fungal infection, nail damage, circulation, underlying health conditions, nail growth rate, home care, shoe hygiene, and risk of reinfection may all influence the final result.
Our goal is to provide a thoughtful, physician-led treatment plan designed to give your nails the best opportunity for healthier growth.
When should I expect to see healthier nail?
Healthy-looking nail does not appear immediately after treatment because the existing damaged nail must gradually grow forward.
You may begin to notice clearer or healthier-looking nail emerging from the base of the nail as growth occurs. Visible improvement often takes several months and varies depending on the nail involved and your individual growth rate.
Progress is evaluated over time rather than immediately after treatment.
How long does a toenail take to grow?
Toenails grow slowly. A complete new toenail can take approximately 12 to 18 months to grow from the base to the tip, and sometimes longer depending on the individual.
Because of this, fungal nail restoration is a process rather than an overnight transformation. We monitor the nail as it grows and help you understand what changes to look for along the way.
Do I still need topical antifungal treatment?
Often, yes.
Laser therapy works best as part of a comprehensive treatment plan rather than as a stand-alone procedure. Depending on your individual needs, Dr. Muronda may recommend a prescription or other topical antifungal treatment to use consistently at home.
Your home-care routine is an important part of helping create an environment that supports healthier
nail growth and reduces the risk of reinfection.
Why do I need to treat my shoes?
Fungus can survive in the warm, moist environment inside shoes and may contribute to reinfection.
For this reason, your treatment plan may include recommendations for disinfecting shoes, rotating
footwear, allowing shoes to dry completely between uses, treating your feet appropriately, and
maintaining good foot hygiene.
Treating the nail without addressing the environment around it may make long-term management
more difficult.
Can toenail fungus return?
Yes. Even after significant improvement, toenail fungus can return. Fungal organisms are common in the environment, and reinfection can occur through shoes, communal showers, gyms, nail salons, moisture, athlete’s foot, or other sources.
That is why prevention and maintenance are important. We teach our patients how to care for their feet, nails, socks, and shoes to help reduce the risk of recurrence.
Do I need a nail clipping or laboratory test before treatment?
Not every patient requires laboratory testing before beginning treatment.
Dr. Muronda evaluates each patient individually. When the clinical appearance is strongly consistent with fungal nail disease, treatment may be recommended based on the examination. When the diagnosis is uncertain, the nail has an unusual appearance, or another condition is suspected, a nail clipping, culture, biopsy, or other evaluation may be recommended.
This is especially important because conditions such as psoriasis, repetitive trauma, and other nail disorders can sometimes resemble fungus.

If you are dealing with toe nail fungus, finding the best toenail treatment for fungus early can help prevent the infection from spreading and damaging the nail. Many people experience thick, yellow, or brittle nails and start looking for a reliable toe nail infection treatment that actually works.
Professional foot and nail fungus treatment focuses on eliminating the infection while allowing the nail to grow back healthy. In many cases, advanced options like nail fungus laser treatment or toenail laser treatment are recommended because they can target the fungus beneath the nail without harming the surrounding skin. This type of fungus laser treatment is often chosen by patients who want a modern approach to treating stubborn nail infections.
Different conditions may require different types of toe nails fungus treatment, including specialized fungus for nails treatment and proper care for fungus on feet treatment or fungus in toes treatment. Visiting a podiatrist nail fungus specialist helps ensure the infection is properly diagnosed and treated with the most effective approach.
Along with professional care for toe nail fungus, maintaining clean and healthy feet is important for preventing reinfection. Many patients also support their routine with quality foot care products like Dr. Mo’s Products, which help keep feet clean, moisturized, and well maintained between treatments.
